- The «Progressive Caucus» of the European Parliament (a cross group initiative with Members from the GUE/NGL, S&D and Greens/EFA groups) organizes a public hearing of NGOs
- Civil society organisations will present their «6th scenario: Sustainable Europe for its citizens»
The Progressive Caucus of the European Parliament* is hosting an event, during which will be presented the «6th scenario: Sustainable Europe for its citizens». The hearing is taking place on the 6th December 2017, between 13:00-15:00, inside the European Parliament (A5E2).
The Vice-President of the EP, MEP Dimitrios Papadimoulis (GUE/NGL), will deliver a speech at the beginning of the event. Speeches on the topic will be delivered by the MEPs Florent Marcellesi (Greens/EFA) and Guillaume Balas (S&D) including the presentation of the Missing Scenario, an alternative scenario produced by the Progressive Caucus for the Future of Europe.
The 6th scenario will be presented by Paul de Clerck from ‘Friends of the Earth Europe, Deirdre de Burca, from ‘SDG Watch Europe’, and David Holyoake, from ‘CEE Bankwatch Network’.
SDGWatch Europe and FoE Europe facilitated the collective work on the 6th scenario with around 250 civil society organisations. It constitutes an answer to the White Paper on the Future of Europe, which was presented in March 2017 by the European Commission’s President, Jean-Claude Juncker.
As stated in the collective essay, «in a scenario where sustainability sits firmly at the heart of the European project, the EU27 will prioritise the interests of citizens, in the EU and beyond».
